Bookkeeper
 
JOB DESCRIPTION

Anderson Animal Shelter is searching for an honest, detail-oriented, highly organized individual with working knowledge of QuickBooks and general bookkeeping practices to assist in our finance department. The Bookkeeper runs the day to day operations of financial systems such as accounts payable and receivable; prepares bank deposits and presents data to management as needed; manages banking transactions in QuickBooks; and must possess the initiative to grow the role to a higher level. 

 

 Responsibilities include 
  • Detailed entry of financial data 

  • Analyze invoices and manage vendors, and expenditures 

  • Coordinate payments; manage accounts payable system and maintain vendor files 

  • Maintain the accounts receivable process; enter receipts into QuickBooks 

  • Ensure Anderson’s financial policies are followed by all employees 

  • Commute between Anderson locations multiple times throughout week to collect daily closeouts, donations, and mail 

  • Process daily closeouts using QuickBooks and Excel 

  • Sort mail and distribute accordingly 

  • Maintain postage machine 

  • Attend staff meetings and contribute constructive feedback 

  • Other duties as assigned by CFO ​

 

Education/Skills  
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping practices, proficient computer and typing skills required

  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel preferred 

  • Able to perform mental calculations and have strong understanding of spreadsheets 

  • Associate’s degree and/or certification preferred and/or equivalent experience in accounting or business

 Physical Requirements  
  • Physical ability to walk, sit and/or stand for up to 10 hours at a time 

  • Willingness to work in the vicinity of wide array of domestic and wild animals with varying temperaments

Over the years, the shelter has transitioned from a traditional community animal shelter to one of the most progressive humane societies of its kind. Anderson Animal Shelter collaborates with public and private organizations and individuals to shelter, care for and promote the adoption of stray and unwanted companion animals.
