I agree to serve without compensation as a volunteer worker to provide service to the Anderson Animal Shelter. As a volunteer worker, I acknowledge that I will be acting entirely at my own risk. I am aware of the dangers inherent in handling animals and the hazards inherent in the normal course of volunteer work at the Anderson Animal Shelter.
In consideration of the Anderson Animal Shelter allowing me to provide volunteer work on a volunteer basis for the charitable and not-for-profit purposes of the Anderson Animal Shelter, I hereby release, discharge and indemnify the Anderson Animal Shelter and its agents, directors, officers, servants, employees and other volunteer workers from any and all claims, present or future, whether known or unknown, on account of any personal or bodily injury, including death and/or on account of any damage to any of my property suffered and sustained by me from any cause incident to or arising out of, during or in connection with, any volunteer work for or on behalf of the Anderson Animal Shelter. The Anderson Animal Shelter has the right to terminate this Agreement upon its discretion. I understand and agree that the terms of this Agreement shall be binding upon heirs, my assigns, personal representatives and myself. In the case of an emergency requiring medical care, I authorize the Anderson Animal Shelter to act on my behalf.
Anderson Animal Shelter’s Volunteer Program is composed of persons age 13+ who love animals and who believe that all companion animals deserve shelter, food, love, and respect. After completing a Volunteer Program Application and attending a Volunteer Orientation and Mentor Training Session, you will be officially considered a volunteer of Anderson Animal Shelter. However, depending on the program in which you would like to volunteer, there may be additional training that you must complete before you can begin serving at the shelter.
All new volunteers are asked to contribute $15 to the Shelter. This covers the cost of their volunteer T-shirts and the printed materials that they will receive. If this is an economical hardship for any new volunteer, waivers will be granted on a case-by-case basis by speaking with the Volunteer Coordinator. This $15 should be brought with you to your orientation session in form of cash or check.
New volunteers MUST register for their orientation session by calling or emailing the Volunteer Coordinator at jpal@andersonanimalshelter.org or 847-697-2880 extension 21.
Orientation sessions last approximately one hour and are held at the shelter in the auditorium. Please plan on being at the shelter 5 minutes early, as we will begin the orientation session promptly at the given time.
New volunteers MUST complete their first hour of volunteer service with an official shelter Mentor. For convenience, a Mentor may sometimes be available to new volunteers after the Orientation Meetings for those who wish to stay and be mentored immediately*. Otherwise, a list of Mentors will be made available at the Orientation Meeting for new volunteers who wish to schedule their mentoring for a later time.
